…added to the framework for browsers where CSS is slow. Using SASS , Touch 2 will generate CSS based themes as you do in 1.x, but now you'll also be able to generate image based themes for devices where CSS3 features slow the browser down. This also opens the way to making Touch 2.x apps eventually work on Windows Phone.

In the Sencha Touch track, we'll focus on Sencha Touch 2, in particular how to maximize its performance (particularly on Android browsers), upgrade your existing applications, use it to interact with device and carrier network API s, and then deploy web apps to native app stores. And how to build Sencha Touch apps with Designer? That could be an exciting one...

But at Sencha, it's not all about big conferences though, and we're always excited to be involved with meetups, hackathons and grassroots events too. AT&T's regular hackathons are always a lot of fun, and after Chicago this weekend, we're looking forward to Atlanta , San Francisco and Orlando over the coming months. Compared to other JavaScript frameworks, Sencha Touch has a richer set of libraries and objects that can be leveraged in the client, beyond just the UI elements. Also, Sencha Touch manages the state on the client side, so your app or site can be more responsive because the load is reduced on the back-end. For a real-time application like ours, responsiveness was critical, and Sencha Touch did not disappoint.
Finally, Sencha Touch support for an MVC approach was critical to supporting …

Some of the recent additions to JsDuck include compatibility with Markdown, easy search integration and history/deep linking support. Best of all, the front end app we use on our docs is an Ext JS 4 MVC app and comes included with JsDuck. It's easy to install for your own projects. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

…JavaScript performance, we weren't quite sure what to expect with the the Sencha Touch Kitchen Sink . After testing for a while, we were quite impressed. There were definitely a few rendering glitches, and the aggressive behavior of the address bar often occludes the UI's back button. On the other hand, animations were snappy, lists scrolled quickly and the browser had no problems handling the most complex layouts. Sencha Touch relies on high performance CSS3 and as …

…so swiping your finger to scroll lists caused the whole window to move. However, when we packaged a Sencha Touch app into an IPK (webOS' packaging format) with the Palm developer tools, and ran the app in a native shell, the overall performance was significantly better, and the swipe gestures were detectable by the application. For now, this remains the most satisfactory way to deploy and run web apps on this device.
